The Vepr 12 is produced by the Molot factory and incorporates a bolt hold-open device which holds the bolt open when the magazine is emptied. It is fitted with a modified AK-style safety that has an additional lever that permits faster “safety on” operation. The safety lever is also duplicated on the left side of the receiver.
